Sneezing

ha… haah… haAAAH-SHOOOOOOOOO!

For most of us, a sneeze is just a bodily reflux. Or to be a little more scientific, sternutation (the fancy name for the act of sneezing), is a semi-autonomous, convulsive expulsion of air from the lungs through the nose and mouth, usually caused by foreign particles irritating the tissue lining the nasal passage.1

But for some, sneezing is a sexual pleasure. I asked for volunteers to answer a few questions to help write this article to give a better understanding on this kink and received many response. Thank you to everyone who took time to share their insights and I’m so sorry that I couldn’t fit everything in! There were heaps of great responses and it was hard to pick which to add below. Enjoy!

What exactly about a person sneezing is of interest to you?

Everyone sneezes. No matter who you are, what you do, where you are from, how powerful you are – it is one of those basic human experiences we all share.Andy
It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is about sneezing I enjoy so much, but after I read some posts bringing up the orgasm parallel, that’s the best answer I can give. Buildup, release, recovery… I’ve learned that some of the things I like about sneezing (having a person struggle to hold back, a long build-up) are parallel to the (much less intense) orgasm denial kink I have, so that’s interesting.Jane
A girl sneezing or inducing sneezes portrays a loss of control, and quite often seems to be pleasurable to them. The sound, the entire sneeze from beginning tickle to release is fascinating to me. Like watching a woman orgasm.BrotherWolf

How does the attraction work? Do you find yourself attracted to all sneezes or just some?

If I like the person and find them attractive, chances are I’ll enjoy their sneeze. I’m queer, so gender isn’t a huge factor in whether or not I like their sneeze. I don’t like cough-like sneezes or sneezes that are obviously overly-dramatic or screamed or anything like that.Jane
One metaphor I found that a lot of people have agreed is pretty good at explaing how we feel about sneezing would be to substitue the word “naked” for “sneeze(ing)” in any sentence.

1. Hey, that cute guy over their is sneezing [naked]! (good)

2. Dude, you’re Mom’s been sneezing [naked] all morning! (bleh! yuck! brain bleach!)

Niceguy
I would say 95% of the time that I prefer female sneezes, but quite recently I’ve found a few guys who I’m close with (who also have the fetish and have shared videos) who have quite literally sent tingles down my spine. And of course my partner sneezes really get me going.Leas

What does the perfect sneeze look like for you?

I can’t say there’s such a thing as a perfect sneeze, even if we’re just going by my personal preferences. Every sneeze is unique, and often I’ll find I like how a girl’s sneeze sound and style will connect with (or completely diverge from) her personality.Andy
Okay… *closes eyes* hmm… Well the perfect sneeze I’d say would come from someone who I was physically attracted to so I’m imaging my partner, we’ll be mid conversation and he’ll just stop talking, his mouth open, his breath hitching but it’s stuck, he’ll become more and more desperate to sneeze and starts to look at a light… He grabs a tissue and sneezes a gorgeous triple “HA-ishooo! Itshooo! HA-ichoooo! I’ll hug him close, say bless you and kiss him on the nose. Le sighLeas
I remember going to the grocery store about 2 years ago and it was in winter and my cashier obviously had a cold. Tissues, red nose, sniffling, etc. I remember handing her my money for my items and she had a full blown sneezing fit and sneezed probably close to 30 times in about a minute. She couldn’t even take my money, poor girl. I was dumb founded… I felt my face get hot and started pouring sweat because inside of me, her sneezes were effecting me and I always have this weird inner battle with my self that my inner feelings become outer feelings and that I was some how giving away my secret fetish (whether it be squirming, lip biting, facial expression, etc) I about melted right at the register. It was probably one of the greatest random sneezing encounters of my life. Ill never forget that… And how awkward it was. Lets not forget allergy and cold season!! I so enjoy going out in public and just listening to the symphony of people sneezing.HarleyQuinnSFF

Do you have a favorite saying for after someone sneezes?

‘Bless you,’ but I will only say it to people I an pretty explicitly flirting with and those are the only people I want to hear it from, too. :PJane
I’m partial to “Bless you.” Never been a fan of “Gesundheit.”Andy
Honestly I just wish we’d stop doing that entirely. I thinks it a bit ridiculous, actually.Niceguy

Do you have a favorite method to induce sneezes?

Yes! Q tips! (cotton buds) they are so easy to use!Leas
In other people, I love feathers because what a classic, but I’m not too terribly picky. I’d rather not see people induce with things that look like they might hurt (toothpicks, unbent paper clips, that sort of sharp, pokey thing).Jane
Please, whoever is reading this, do not use a bent paper clip to induce. That’s so sharp. Look at your life. Look at your choices. Use something soft – it tickles more anyway!Andy
A rolled up tissue up the nose (basically tickle your BRAIN with it) works well in a pinch. But I find it a bit uncomfortable. For a REALLY good method, get your hands on some Chhinkni. It’s a alternative medical product from India, a tobacco-less snuff that meant to clear out your sinuses. It DOES that: By making you sneeze your bloody head off! I get 10-12 MINIMUM when I use it, and I RARLEY even sneeze twice in a row. Powerful stuff, and not at all painful… (And for God’s sake, don’t EVER try use any kind of pepper!)Niceguy

What advice would you give to your young self or someone just realizing they have this attraction or to someone trying to understand their lover’s interest in this kink?

ENJOY IT. Everyone has a kink for something and sneezing is harmless!HarleyQuinnSFF
Don’t feel guilty and don’t worry. There’s scores of people who love what you love and even more who enjoy sneezing enough on its own. Most folks will find it harmless…and many may find it endearing.BrotherWolf

1. You’re not alone – so don’t feel like a freak.
2. No one else knows, or will figure it out, so feel free to enjoy it – don’t feel guilty or uncomfortable about it.
3. When it comes to TELLING someone, even your SO or spouse, remember that you always tell them later, but once you tell them you can never UNtell them. And there are both good things and bad things about them knowing about it.

Niceguy
I’m not some kind of weirdo haha, this is a genuine fetish and turn on for me! If you’re reading this and think ‘oh god, no way is that real’ it really is, and it’s quite a nice fetish to have, I’ve never wanted to get ‘rid’ of it, it’s part of what makes me …me! :DLeas

Where should people go if they’re interested in finding out more information about this kink?

Fun Fact:

The onomatopoeia (A word that phonetically imitates, resembles or suggests the source of the sound that it describes) for sneezing is linguistic in nature – each language has its own distinct word, from English achoo to French atchoum to Japanese hakushon to Filipino ha-ching to Turkish hapshoo.2
